About the plant

Haldia Energy Limited, a group company of the flagship RP- SG Group, developed a 2X300 MW Coal based Thermal Power station at Haldia, West Bengal to cater to the growing power demand in the city of Kolkata and its suburbs. The units began commercial operation from January 2015 onwards.

The company is in a long term power purchase agreement with CESC Limited, a power distribution licensee for the state capital and its suburbs. The power from the station is evacuated through an 89 km long dedicated 400 kV twin circuit twin moose transmission line which includes two 236 m high river-crossing transmission towers across a span of 1572 m over the river Hooghly, which are the heaviest and tallest in India .

The company has a Fuel supply agreement with Mahanadi Coal Fields Limited for supply of coal to the power station. The water is drawn from river Hooghly through a 13 km long  pipeline. The organization always thrives for excellence and continual improvement in its performance, quality system, safety, and environmental management to satisfy the customers and other stakeholders in the process of power  generation right from its inception.

Hon'ble  CM Ms. Mamata Banerjee and Chairman Dr. Sanjiv Goenka during inauguration of the plant.

The plant achieved IMS (Integrated Management System for ISO 9001:2008, ISO 14001: 2004, and BS OHSAS 18001: 2007) certification within the first year of its operation and has already migrated to the latest respective versions (2015 version for Quality and Environment and ISO 45001:2018 for Occupational Health & Safety). Its state of the art Coal Testing Laboratory also received accreditation from NABL during the first year. The plant has also achieved ISO 50001:2018 certification for Energy Management System.
