HEL has been using Digital interventions to address emerging challenges and exploit new opportunities thrown up by the changing scenario. In this Digital Transformation journey, HEL has been effecting improvements across multiple dimensions of operations, maintenance, safety, and asset management by building a new set of capabilities. These capabilities comprise of:
Data lies at the heart of the Digital revolution. HEL has developed and integrated multiple platforms for the generation, visualization, collection, storage, and analytics of data.
HEL is using advanced IoT sensors & devices, 3D printing technology for spare parts, drones for 400kV tower surveillance, remote-operated mobile vehicles capable of transmitting and recording images and videos inside confined spaces like pipelines, self-learning forecasting algorithms to address UI operation.
Using these twin arms of data and technology, HEL is optimizing conversion efficiency of fuel, attaining flexibility in operations to ensure stable performance under varying loads, optimizing load allocation across available units, reducing downtime by predicting errors through the use of big-data and pattern recognition software and remote monitoring, shifting from interval-based maintenance to a condition and even risk-based maintenance strategy.
To protect the operating system & assets from cyber-attack, in line with CEA Regulations, HEL has identified its Critical Information Infrastructure (CII) and implemented its Cyber Crisis Management Plan(CCMP) involving security audit, vulnerability assessment & security testing of the identified critical ICT s.
